The staff at breakfast were very efficient and breakfast was good, all the food fresh and well presented. Reception staff were nice and helpful. This is the second time of staying and the friends who came with us were very pleased with the hotel.

The daily visit from the ducks! The swimming and spa area. The staff in Sails were excellent.

I understand that this is a family hotel but the children tended to invade the swimming pool, making it diffiuclt to swim. We like to eat earlier so the evening adults only session is too late. Could there be an afternoon slot?

The hotel complex is spacious. It has good parking facilities. Large rooms. Excellent sporting equipment, good gym with spar + pool. Walking distance to the Isle of Wight ferry, walking distance to Lymington town centre. Very enjoyable stay. I wish I could stay longer.

It was very relaxing and we had a nice view.

The food in the main restaurant was excellent. The room was much larger than average. The setting was lovely with great facilities for families.

Whilst the young girl (Georgie) serving at the main hotel bar provided an excellent and friendly service, the main waitress in the restaurant was very officious and aloof which spoilt the enjoyment of an excellent meal. This lady had the same attitude at breakfast the following morning. All drinks were vastly overpriced especially a bottle of still water (£5 for large and £2.50 for small). The hotel should invest in new towels as the ones they supply in the room are very thin and worn.

open air swimming pool, gardens, continental breakfast, helpful friendly staff

Open air pool area is too crowded, not enough sun beds, food at the pool is poor value compared to restaurant

I came for a weekend away with my husband and my experience at the Macdonald Elmers was fantastic. The staff are so customer focused that you instantly feel like you are the only guests there. We arrived on a day when there was a big wedding going on at the hotel and even though they had a huge wedding to contend with the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Our room was well appointed and clean, and it was detached from the main building so it felt like we were in a holiday resort rather than a hotel. The facilities were great and the swimming pool (both outside and inside) were warm and luxurious. We had dinner at the Waterford restaurant and the food and service were amazing. The food was fresh and delicious and the lady that served us was friendly, helpful and welcoming despite her very long shift as we had seen her when we arrived 10 hours earlier. Breakfast was fantastic, the continental part was buffet style and our full english was freshly cooked to perfection, the table service made us feel like we were in a top restaurant, despite how full the service was. We had to cut our stay short as there was an emergency at home, we had paid for 2 nights but the hotel gave us our money back for the 2nd night and only charged us £30 late check out fee, I dont know any other hotel that would do this after already having our credit card details. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. This is the second Macdonald Hotel I have stayed in and I was not disappointed.

My only criticism would be the value for money. We went to Sails restaurant for lunch when we arrived and the food was mediocre at best and for the price (£7.50 for a sandwich!!!) I was expecting better. I was suprised at Sails quality as The Waterford was amazing. After having dinner at The Waterford we asked to take a bottle of still water back to our room, it was the worlds most expensive bottle of water as they charged £15.90 to our room bill, yes I said it right £15.90! If you are going to stay here make sure you ask for the price of everything as it came as quite a shock.

Loved being able to relax away from other people rather than all rooms close to each other as in many hotels; wonderful grounds; proximity to the sea and ferry to Isle of Wight; great walking area; lovely indoor pool; good to have no meals booked and just be able to use it as a base and to walk in grounds, have a drink at bar etc - we like being left to ourselves.

My husband and I only stayed for one evening but thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the surroundings. We found the staff to be extremely helpful and friendly. The breakfast was well presented and the Manager on duty - sorry I have forgotten her name - was very efficient and friendly.

Location. Staff make you feel special.

Thought the price of 189 for 1 night and b/b was a little steep

  • Older travelers

Comfortable, quite spacious room. Very nice, well tended grounds and good facilities.

  • Older travelers
    8.2

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful Golden Wedding celebration lunch. The food was delicious and we were able to have drinks and coffee on the sunny terrace: a wonderful treat in April! Breakfast next morning was superb and the head waitor was excellent.

I do not like blankets, as I prefer a duvet.

  • Older travelers
    8.2

Very peaceful and relaxing environment with attractive gardens and grounds. Spacious and well appointed room. Staff friendly and helpful.

Food in Sails restaurant very ordinary, no real quality.
